The government shutdown has finally ended. Thank God that SNAP benefits and critical aid for more than 40 million precious lives will not be withheld indefinitely.

Even in this moment of relief, the toxic chatter continues. The partisan debates, the noise about winners and losers, all feel so loud. The real suffering of families is being drowned out. The arguments continue. The finger-pointing has not paused. Some are busy celebrating political gain. As people of faith, our calling is found in the quiet places between the headlines.

Our assignment is compassion. It is not tied to a party or a platform. It is rooted in the heart of Christ.

It is the person who comes quietly to a food bank. It is the mother who fears one more bill. It is the father trying to stay strong. It is the child who does not understand why dinner is smaller or why it is not there at all. These are the souls God places before us. They are not watching political commentary. They are praying for relief, for stability, and for a sign that God sees them.

Yes, the shutdown has ended. The hardship remains.

Paychecks have been missed. Bills have stacked up. Cupboards are still empty. The cost of groceries, medicine, transportation, and hope is still painfully high. A reopening of government does not instantly restore peace in the homes of those who are hurting.

This is the hour for our faith to be more than words. This is the time to show up and be the hands and feet of Jesus.
