Our annual Christmas book drive was a success

Empowering Everyday Women Ministries sponsored a Christmas Book Drive to put children’s Bibles, Christian books, and picture books into the hands of disadvantaged children.

On Saturday, Dec. 14, partners helped our organization’s Literacy Links™ program give the gift of literacy, imagination, and joy to hundreds of children in need by donating books and gift certificates that can be redeemed at local book stores.

Supporters of the Christmas Book Drive blessed children at hospitals, schools, social service and charitable organizations with books guaranteed to inject a huge dose of joy and faith into otherwise bleak circumstances.

“Well-off families cannot relate to how it feels not to be able to provide a simple gift like a book to their child on Christmas morning, but severe economic hardship is a reality for many families,” said our founder Dianna Hobbs through a statement provided by longtime publicist Amy Bertinelli.

Hobbs continued, “My team and I will be forever grateful for the generosity and kindness of our community, corporate, and faith partners, as well as individual donors that have helped us get books into the hands of precious children—particularly those living in underserved communities of color.”

The annual Christmas Book Drive was a culmination of Empowering Everyday Women and City Church Buffalo’s literacy initiatives throughout 2019 that saw staff and volunteers offer free tutoring sessions, books, and reading circles in underserved, urban communities where literacy rates are lagging behind the national average.

“It was a truly rewarding experience,” said Jan, a community volunteer and donor who showed up to hand out books and Christmas treats to children at City Church Buffalo. “Putting a smile on a child’s face and promoting unity among families through reading is a priceless gift,” she added.

While the signature annual book drive event is over, the literacy program is ongoing throughout the year.

Please donate to help us bless a child in need, and send a children’s book to Empowering Everyday Women Ministries, 2316 Delaware Ave. Suite #134, Buffalo, NY 14216.
